Born September 26th, 1950 in Memphis, Tennessee, Southern native Merlest Bovan was 68 years old when she was called home on October 14th, 2018. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and neighbor.
Merlest relocated to Seattle from Memphis in 1962 with her mother, Lizzie Bovan, and 6 out of 7 siblings in her older brother Gene’s, ’57 Chevy.
As a single mother of 3, she dedicated over 20 years at Frederick & Nelson before her 1993 commencement from Seattle Vocational Institute. She then went on to dedicate another 15 years to being a medical assistant; the end of her tenure was at Swedish Medical Center, First Hill.
Selfless and caring as she was, she opened the doors of her family home to those in need, including foster children of various ages; she truly had a heart of gold.
Merlest was preceded in home going by her mother Lizzie Bovan, and siblings Sylvia Lee Bovan-Saulsberry, Eugene Hartwell, Willie Bovan, Jerome Bovan.
She is survived by her children (Tara Bradley, Nicole Vickers and Nicolas Vickers), grandchildren (Drevaughn Dorsey (22), TreVell Vickers (6), and Caden Grooms (1)), and her siblings (Jeannette Bovan, Annette Talley and Patsy Bovan).
Merlest Bovan was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
