On December 4, 2019 O.D. Berry, loving husband and father of eight children, passed away at age 97
O.D Berry was born on September 18, 1922 in Jacksonville ,TX to Pete and Tincie Renfroe Berry. In his adult life O.D served the United States Army; World War II from 1943-1946 receiving an Honorable Discharge.
On October 1, 1955, he married Bernice Marie Dillon-Jones in Hammond, Louisiana. The couple then moved to Seattle, Washington to start a family where they raised two sons, Jeffery and Melvin Berry, and two daughters, Lavette Renee Noonan-Scribner, Sharlesia Berry-Seck.
O.D. worked for Northern Railroad Company, and went on to work for the Public Health department with the City of Seattle where he retired. O.D was a Pilar in his community and well respected.
He had a passion for fixing things that were broken, and working on cars with his son’s. He loved helping people, and was admired by friends and family. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.
O.D. was preceded in death by his father, Pete, and his mother, Tincie, two sons, O.D. Berry Jr, and Jerry Berry, also brother James Berry, and two sisters Lucille Horne, and Jessie Mae Berry.
He is survived by his wife Bernice, his six children, Frank Berry of Hammond Louisiana, Diane Hunter of Hammond Louisiana, Jeffrey, Melvin, Lavette Renee, and Sharlesia of Seattle, WA; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
