Alberta was born on May 30, 1940, in Eldorado Arkansas. She was the 6th of 8 children born to Johnny and Gladys Burks Massey.
She attended Booker T Washington High School and went on to earn a BS degree in business Education from University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (formerly known as A M & N College).
She taught in the Fordice Arkansas Public School System for a year before moving to Seattle in 1962. She worked in the Head Start Program, Seattle OIC as well as other community-based programs. She worked for several years at the Boeing Company, retiring in 2009.
She belonged to the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Washington Rhinestones Inc. and the Pacific Northwest Searchers Social and Charity Club.
She served on the Washington State Usher Board representing Mt. Zion Baptist Church for many years.
She was proceeded in death by her parents Johhny Massey Sr. and Gladys Burks Massey, Husband, Harry Howard, Brother Johnny Massey Jr., five sisters Ruby Preston, Margaret Williams, Helen Camper, Ophelia Gillespie, and Betty Sue Massey Brown.
Alberta is survived by her brother Harold David Massey, son Efrem Howard (Tracy Rogers), daughter Djomme Howard (Jerome Franklin), Grandchildren, Nyjah Howard, Leon Howard, Isaac Fujioka, Sydney Gladys Jimerson, Darius Howard, 3 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Alberta was active in the Community and had a true passion for fashion and interior design. We will always remember her “painting the town red”.
