Almeta Barfield Obituary

Almeta Barfield was born on April 27, 1939 to Emzy Sr. and Marie Edwards in Montgomery, Alabama. To this union there were eight children, which Almeta was the 5th child. Almeta accepted the Lord at the young age of eight years old, while attending Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in Ramer, Alabama. Almeta spent her early years in the Montgomery School District and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School.

At the age of 21 years old Almeta moved to Seattle, Washington in 1960. Almeta and Willie James Barnett was blessed to have Ovetta and Bruce. In 1965 she married Melvin Robinson and was blessed with the birth of Edward. In 1987, Almeta married John Barfield and was married until his passing in 2011. Almeta was an active member of the NAACP and the Urban League of Seattle and enjoyed giving back to her community. Almeta was an active member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Seattle, Washington, where she taught Sunday School and later attended Christian Faith Center in Federal Way, Washington.

Almeta attended Seattle Community College and Seattle University, where she received her Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education. In 1970, Almeta worked as a preschool teacher at the University of Washington Childcare Center until 1988. Almeta loved children and had the desire to work for herself. In 1988, Almeta started her own business Sunshine Inn Daycare, providing education and loving care for young children.

Almeta was preceded in death by her parents Emzy Sr. and Marie Edwards, her daughter Ovetta Edwards, her siblings, James Edwards, Mary B Sanders, Nellie Henderson, Juanita Alexander, Emzy Edwards Jr. and Jimmie Walters.

Almeta went home to be with her Lord in Perfect Peace on Thursday, May 21, 2020. Almeta is survived by her sons Bruce Barnett and Edward Robinson, her grandchildren Montique Jenkins, Latoya Green, Malcom Majors, Isaiah Barnett, and Jenaye Barnett-Rogers. Her great -grandchildren Montique Jenkins Jr., Montre’ Jenkins, and Josiah Latrel-Leon Webb. Her sister Martha Edwards and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
