Joseph (Joe) Daniel Warren was born June 14, 1937 to James D. and Florida Warren in Gonzales, LA. In 1942, the family moved to Bremerton, WA and later to Seattle where he graduated from Cleveland HS in 1955. His first job after high school was at Non-Ferrous Metal Co. He enlisted in the Washington National Guard where he received an honorable discharge after eight years.
Joseph began attending Jackson Street Church of God (now Church of God Evangelistic Center) in May 1955 after catching the eye of Otis Brown Sr. Said Pastor Brown, “If I can get that young man, many others will follow.” Joe met Janice Hawkins at the church in July 1956. They were engaged in September 1957 and married March 22, 1958. They had three children, Stephen, Marquita, and Renee. Joe remained a member of the church until his passing; serving as a board member, Sunday School teacher and Usher for many years.
Naturally Athletic, Joe was a member of the Seattle Cavaliers semiprofessional football team for several years and also coached the Red Shield Little League football team for a number of years.
Joe worked at Boeing, Lockheed Shipyard and Laborers Local 252 until he retired in 2002.
He was preceded in death by his son Stephen and his four siblings; Hilery Warren, Elvie Warren, Gloria Berry, James Warren Jr. and his parents James Sr. and Florida. He leaves to cherish his memories: His loving wife Janice, daughters Marquita Henley and Renee Warren, grandsons Stephen Warren II, Mychal Warren, Kevin Henley II, Jason Warren and Joseph Henley; sisters-in-law Vertis Jones, Christina Stringfellow (Allen), Cynthia Thomas, and brothers-in-law Erskine Hawkins (Shelly) and Claude Hawkins (Celia) as well as a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and godchildren.
