It is with profound sadness that the family of Dale A. Brave, announces his passing on June 4th, 2023 at Overlake Hospital in Bellevue, WA. Dale (Butch) Brave was born to Theodore and Celeste (Dillon) Brave on December 3, 1943 in Rosebud, SD. Most of his youth was spent between Rapid City and Sioux Falls. Soon after he returned from serving with the Navy in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 1964, Dale met his wife to be, Paula Jo Lawrence and he knew she was “the one”. Dale and Paula Jo were married on September 2nd, 1965 in Sioux Falls and spent 57 wonderful years together. They welcomed their sons, Alan in 1967 and Mark in 1970.
They moved to Bellevue, WA, in 1968, where Dale enjoyed many years of playing pool and shuffleboard competitively, gaining him several First Place State Championships. Dale was employed at ParDee Sales Building Material Co. for over 34 years. He considered the employees at ParDee Sales his second family. In 1979, Dale and Paula Jo purchased their first home in Renton, where they have lived since, raising their two sons, Alan and Mark. After Dale retired in 2008, his favorite past times were following various sports, including the Seattle Seahawks and Tiger Woods, playing computer games and enjoying the company of his beloved dogs, Boots and Chance.
Dale will be forever remembered for the love and devotion he had for his family. He was preceded in death by both parents, his brother DuWayne (“Willy”), his brother Bradley, his half-brother Phillip (Cole) Brave, and son Mark. Dale is survived by his wife Paula Jo, son Alan, sister Kathleen DelVecchio, Sister-in-law Kathleen Brave, Sister-in-law Jennifer Brave, 25 nieces and nephews, along with many special friends and extended family.
The Brave family would like to express their gratitude to all the staff at Overlake Hospital, for their kindness and support throughout Dale’s final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to American Lung Association -- https://action.lung.org/Donation.
“Butch” asked that we not have a formal “Celebration of Life”. He has never been one for crowds, so he asks that anyone who would like to do so, may take a few moments by themselves or with other family members, to reflect on their memories and the times they spent with “Butch”.
