Dana Nicole D’Gene Black was born April 22, 1976, in Seattle Washington to Helen Ann Black and Davy Gene Sanders. Dana was the first child born to this union. Her baby sister Iana was the second born in 1979. Dana was the middle child and her sister Mia was the oldest. Dana idolized Mia and loved Iana “Nana” as the family called her. During both Dana and Iana’s younger years Dana had to step up as the big sister and provide her baby sister a life -saving bone marrow transplant which she did with honor. The trio of sisters were extremely close. Dana passed away unexpectedly during the evening of Thursday December 2, 2021.
Dana attended John Rogers Elementary School (K-3) Madrona Elementary School (4-5) Meany Middle School (6-8), Sharpless Alternative, and graduated Garfield High School class of 1994. During her academic years Dana was a proud “Dreamer” in the” I have a Dream Foundation” of Greater Seattle. She was also an active participant in Seattle’s 4-H Foundation where she learned many life skills.
After Graduation Dana went on to work at the Bon Marche’ in the Loss Prevention Department. She later changed career paths and began working as a Debt collection Agent and her last job would be that of a caregiver which she did with grace. Not long after graduating Dana met her life partner Shannon D Hatten where they continued a union of many years.
Dana was most known by her family and close friends for her sense of humor, love of music, and passion for fashion! She was simply called “D” by many or other nick names such as Big Bob-a-loopa ,D. Black, Dana Dane, Butt, Little Dana, Duckey, and Tookie.
Dana is preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Mia A. Buford (Emery) and Iana D. Black and life partner Shannon D. Hatten, Aunt Veola Stuckey, and Uncle Willie Stuckey, God mother Letha Neal Gray (Howard). She is survived by her brother Damon Sanders, Niece, Emary Warren (Santanna) Nephew, Nissim Black (Adina,) Niece, Tatiana Cooper (Sean) Niece, Nevaeh Sanders, God sons, Jamel and Jamar Jackson, Aunts: Aletha Johnson (Dana), Mary Harris (Grover), Lorraine Stuckey (Michael) Sharon Stuckey and Uncle: Byron Stuckey in addition to a host of great nieces, great nephews, great aunts, cousins, friends and extended family.
