Dennis Lee Case, born on June 22, 1951 at Ft. Chaffee, Arkansas died peacefully, surrounded by family, after a long battle with liver failure and complications from the illness on July 4, 2022 in Kirkland, Washington.
Dennis leaves behind his wife, Janice Case (Mathews) of 50 years, whom he married in Memphis, Tennessee in 1972, and their six children: Matthew (Tatiana), Christopher (Carrie), Catherine Guza (Mike), Daniel (Lori), Timothy, and Elizabeth; and 14 grandchildren: Meghan, Mariah, Adelynne, Michael, Eleanor, Austin, Pandora-Vanessa, Lilyanna, Elijah, Samson, Georgia, Morrigan, Sarah, and Harper.
As the son of a US Navy veteran, Dennis grew up on various military installations around the country before his father moved to Littleton, CO, after retiring from the Navy in 1968. Dennis attended Littleton High School, before joining the US Army. Dennis was deployed to Vietnam, where he received the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during combat. Over his twenty-year military career in the U.S. Army, Dennis worked as a soldier, helicopter crew chief, chaplain’s assistant, air traffic controller, air traffic control examiner, and broadcast engineer.
Dennis retired from the Army in 1990 in Spanaway, WA, where he worked various jobs to support his family while attending Pierce College and Pacific Lutheran University (PLU). He worked at the Veterans Administration helping veterans find employment and continued to serve the community for the next ten years as Chief of Audio/Visual Information at Madigan Army Medical Center in Ft. Lewis, WA., ultimately retiring to focus on being a grandpa full-time.
Faith and family were the two central pillars of Dennis’s life. He was a benevolent, humorous husband, father, and grandfather who loved his children and grandchildren immensely. Dennis had also been a member of By His Word Christian Center in Tacoma, WA since 1986.
Dennis was predeceased by his parents Barbara Ruth Case (Kennan) and George Alphred Case, brother John Ray Case, and Dennis' in-laws Joesph Mathews and Betty Jean Mathews (Pate). The Mathews were life-long best friends with Dennis' parents and met when Dennis was three, while they were all stationed in Patuxent River, MD.
He will be laid to rest Thursday, July 14, 2022, at 9 a.m. at the Tahoma National Cemetery (18600 SE 240th Street, Kent, WA 98042). A Celebration of Life will follow from 11a.m. -1 p.m. at Puget Sound Foursquare (4020 S. 56th St, Tacoma, WA 98409).
