Douglas Farrell “Bubbie” Carter
June 15, 1966 – August 23, 2025
Douglas Farrell “Bubbie” Carter was born on June 15, 1966, in Seattle, Washington, to the late Emma Jean (Carter) Payne and Wallace Britt. He spent his childhood on Mercer Island, some of the best years of his life, where he excelled in football, basketball, swimming, biking, and skateboarding. At home, he and his sister spent countless hours playing board and card games — Monopoly, Speed, Crazy Eights — memories that remain some of the most cherished. To his niece and nephew, he was lovingly known as Uncle Doug.
Doug was a protector, a giver, and someone who always put others first. He faced life with resilience — no matter the challenges, he put his best foot forward. His sharp dress, unique style, and love of ’60s and ’70s music made him unforgettable. He also enjoyed good food, and family often joked about his love of fried chicken.
A man of many talents, Doug had an extraordinary gift for drawing. His artwork amazed his family and revealed his artistic soul. He carried himself with charisma, charm, and natural finesse — always a stand-up man with a presence all his own.
What his family remembers most is his unwavering thoughtfulness. Whether incarcerated or hospitalized, he never forgot birthdays or holidays. Year after year, he found ways to send gifts, handmade or purchased, making sure his loved ones felt remembered. His consistency and generosity left a lasting mark.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents, Emma Jean Payne and Wallace Britt. He leaves to cherish his memory his sister, Pamela Payne; his niece and nephew, Ashley Preston and DeMario Hall; his great-niece, A’Jai Coleman; aunts and uncles Otis Carter, Henry Carter, Brandy Carter, Annie Slater, Vernia Harris, Gwenda Carter-Louis; and a host of cousins.
He will be deeply missed, but his soul, generosity, and love will live on forever in the hearts of those who knew him.
