Dwayne Wright Obituary

Dwayne Cornell Wright, was born May 14, 1960 in San Francisco, California to the union of the late Sylvester Wright and Elizabeth Harris Wright.  He was the oldest of three children.

Dwayne was educated in the public schools of California  graduating from Sequoia High School in 1978.  He was very athletic at a young age. He played football, basketball and love boxing.  He excelled in every sport he played.

Dwayne relocated to Seattle, Washington in 1984.  He was employed with The Pike Place Market, King 5 New Station, The Pepsi Company and Old Castle Precast as a Machine Operator Lead until his health prevented him.

Dwayne was blessed with three beautiful children two sons and one daughter. He was a wonderful father, who truly loved his children and they were a very important part of his life.

Dwayne met the love of his life Cynthia McDuffie and their friendship grew into love. They were united in marriage on June 15, 2002 and to their union one son was born.  They were best friends and did everything together family, football and ministry.

Dwayne coached little league football for the Rainier Eagles from 1993-2001 as an offensive coach.  Then he went on to coach at Rainier Beach

High School from 2002-2014 where he coach linebackers and special teams. His love and passion for coaching allowed him to coach from the heart. He taught plays without a playbook.  He was more than just a coach he was a teacher, friend, community leader and a father to those that didn’t have a father figure present.  

Dwayne built many relationships over his life and all of his close friends were more than friends they were brothers.  They shared a special bond that grew as the years went on and he looked forward to hanging with the fellas enjoying the game of football he loved.

Dwayne gave his life to the Lord and united himself with Manifested Glory Ministries under the leadership of Pastors Barbara and Bernard Stowers.  Dwayne served as head of the Men’s Department, sang on the Praise Team and assisted with the youth activities until his health prevented him. 

Dwayne enjoyed sporting events, music, eating and hanging out with family and friends.  He was outgoing, fun loving and a hilarious person.  He would keep you laughing with his stories and jokes.  Wherever he was he was always the life of the party.  He will be remembered for his bright smile, great personality, “fly” style and his love for life, football,  family, and friends.

Dwayne departed this life and was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus on September 7, 2019 with his wife by his side.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester and Elizabeth Wright; his grandparents, Van & Mary Wright, Grant & Mary Harris; his sister, Mary Louise Wright; his uncles, George Wright, Leroy Wright and William Wright; his aunt Laura Wright; and his great-aunt Louise Staples.

He leaves to celebrate his life, his wife of 17 years, Cynthia McDuffie-Wright; four children, Dwayne Wright, Donte (Teresita Duggins) Wright, Brittany Wright, and Donovan Wright; six grandchildren, Knowledge Wright,

Devin-Mekhi Wright, Karter Wright, Santanah Wright, Aubrielle Nunnelly and Aaliyah Nunnelly; one brother, Nelson (Bridgette) Wright; one sister-in-law, Barbara (Eddie) Butler; one brother-in-law, Billy McDuffie; two godson, Kirkmoni Wilson and Majacque Gregory, Jr.; his coaching brothers, Eric Taa, Mark Haley, Darren Witcher, Bobby Oliver, Fritz Martin, Trent Pollard , Jerry Willis, and Ron Howard; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives, Rainier Eagle Family, Rainier Beach High School Football Family and loving friends.  Dwayne will truly be missed by all who came to know and love him.
