Ernest Hall, Sr. Obituary

Ernest Lee Hall Sr., a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2024, with his cherished daughter Mary and son-in-law James by his side. He was born on June 16, 1943, in Gulfport, Mississippi, to M.L. Hall and Ella Howard. In November 1960, his family relocated to Seattle, Washington, where he built a life centered on hard work, love, and family.

Throughout his life, Ernest exemplified a strong work ethic and dedication to his family. He held various positions, Burlington Northern unloading trains, foreman at Welldone Janitor Service, diesel mechanic at Wonder Bread, delivery supervisor at R & L Sales, and he co-owned an auto repair and auto sales company with his brother Freddy. He also served as a supervisor at OBM Janitor Service. However, his proudest role was being a father to his three beloved children, teaching them the value of hard work through the many odd jobs he took on to support his family. Ernest had a gift for fixing, building, and repairing almost anything, a skill he lovingly passed on to his children and grandchildren. One of his greatest joys was barbequing under his carport, a cherished tradition he passed to his daughter and grandson, DeVante. Additionally, he was passionate about volunteering in his community, notably as a baseball coach. Ernest also shared a passion for rebuilding and repairing old cars with his brother Freddy, a pastime that brought him much joy and satisfaction.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Schallard Hall, his son Rapheal L. Hall Sr., his parents Ella N. Howard and M.L. Hall, his stepfather Nathaniel Howard, and siblings Robert McClain, Dorthy Bradley, Marie Matthews, Charles McClain, Georgia Quasim, Nathaniel McClain, and Felton Howard. Ernest leaves behind to cherish his memory his children, Ernest L. Hall Jr. and Mary Meullion (James); his stepchildren, Christopher Nuckols and Nichelle Kelley-Sorenson (Richard); his siblings, Bishop Willie McClain (Diane), Freddy McClain (Exa), Margaret Howard, and Tommy Howard (Michelle); and his grandchildren, Randy Hall, Sakeleah Hall, Shaleyah Hall, DeVante Meullion, Gabriel Meullion, Deshea Mitchell, Don Lajay Hall, Rapheal L. Hall Jr., Rian Kelley, and Mackenzie Kelley. He also leaves behind a host of other family members and friends who will forever hold him in their hearts.

Ernest’s legacy is one of hard work, love for his family, and a deep sense of community. He will be remembered for his generosity, his ability to fix and build anything, and the life lessons he passed on to those who knew him.
