Ira Sherman Obituary

Ira who had an array of name monikers such as Chief, Uncle Stew or Ike was called home December 25, 2020.

Ira, sunrise February 11, 1954. The 1st son born to the union of Ira J Sherman Sr. and Irene Sherman. He was the 5th born of 8 children. Ira was born and raised in Los Angeles County. Right out of High school (Palmdale), Ira began to work as a Airplane Mechanic for Lockheed Aeronautics.

Ira later relocated to Seattle Washington in 1976, where he began to work for Boeings. Ira suffered a non-work related injury that had him on disability for several months from work. When he healed he never went back to work at Boeings or for anyone else again he became his own Chief and Commander. Ira was a jack of all trades. He was a self-taught mechanic, building cars from scraps & scratch from early childhood. He also had his own salvage company CJ’s scrapping. Were he hired and employed many family & friends to help them to support their families. If you needed help and fast you could ask Chief to be put in work rotation for the upcoming week and he would make sure you at least got a day of paid work in, if not more. Ira himself scrapped daily until he became to ill to do the work. He still directed traffic and had employees go do the daily routes.

Ira had an infectious smile that would light up a room. He was full of love, humor & always the life of the party. Boy did he like to throw a good old shindig. He hosted weekly Fish Fry Friday at his house, all were welcome. No one had to bring a thing just come eat and enjoy! He had an open- door policy come as you are and have yourself a good time at Uncle Ikes.

In his lifetime, Ira was a husband, boyfriend, father, uncle, cousin, friend, and the likeness of all these and more to those close enough to have had the privilege.

Ira was a gentle soul, who loved his family, friends and his millions of dogs dearly. Always lending a helping hand to anyone in need.

As Ira bravely started an aggressive treatment plan for his illness, with some days better than others he managed well and fought hard with great courage and strength.
