John W. Fort was born on November 19,1922 in Seattle Washington to the union of John W. Fort, Sr. and Mildred Oldwin and died peacefully on June 19, 2020 in Renton, Washington.
John attended McDonald Grade School located in North Seattle, John Marshall Middle School and Roosevelt and Lincoln High Schools. After graduating high school, John worked for the United States Postal Service before joining the Merchant Marines and serving there from 1945-1948. He travel all over the world and saw many beautiful countries like Italy and the Philippines.
After returning home to Seattle, John started his own Cleaning Business in the U District. In 1975 He because the first Black Agent to work at Avis Car Rental.
Past Master John joined Union Lodge #43 in the 1960's. He went on to become the Worshipful Master of that lodge as well as serving as SDDGM of District #2 and a 33" Mason. He served as Secretary for the Consistory , Recorder for the Shrine (Ben Hassan )Temple #64, the Grand Lodge and Union Lodge #43 all at the same time. He also became Honorary Past Potentate as well as a Lifetime Member of Union Lodge #43 and the MWPHGLWA.
John is survived by his wife, Renee Harper Fort, Children, Syvilla, (James O'Reilly), Effie, (Kenneth Ashley), Jacqueline Fort-Richards, John Wesley III, Fort,(Angela) and Isiah Fort, 18 Grandchildren, 3 Step Grand Children, and 2 God Grandchildren, 59 Great Grandchildren, 30 Great Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Great Grandson, Lyjay Immanuel Davis. Special Friends Lorraine Lockett, Pat and James Damper and Monica Barlow.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Wesley Fort Senior and Mildred Oldwin, Brother John Dill and Sister Syvilla Fort, Daughter Gwen Fort, Stepson Raphael Hall and Special Friend Walt Williams.
