Kenneth “Kenny” Lloyd Lewis was born on December 6, 1950, and passed away on February 3, 2025. He was born in Pineville, LA, to Lydia and Walter Lewis, Jr. They moved up as a family to Bremerton, WA in 1952. He grew up in a large and loving family where he was number 8 of 16 children.
Kenneth graduated from West High School in Bremerton, WA, and continued his education at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he played on the baseball team. His first employer was Pacific Northwest Bell. He was a long-time employee of the Washington State Ferries, where he retired after 30 years of employment in 2003. He was also a dedicated union member. He was also involved in Blacks in Government in the 80’s.
Kenneth was known for being a funny, laid-back, quick-with-words kind of person. He wasn’t a man of many words, but his words always held weight when he spoke. His love for music showed in the early 70s when he worked as a jazz DJ in Bellevue, WA. He was a spiritual person and member of Shining Star Faith Ministry in Seattle. He also enjoyed watching religious programs on TV.
He loved sports and was a big boxing fan, Muhammad Ali being his favorite boxer. Fishing was one of his favorite hobbies, and occasionally, he would bring home the catch of the day for his wife to cook. He was the chauffeur when the family took road trips to the Washington and Oregon coasts. He loved taking his grandchildren on the Washington State Ferry to visit family in Bremerton.
In 1971, he met his wife, Elvie, and they married on 4/30 at 4:30 pm in 1973. Four children were born into this union: Reeshema, Amesheer, Narvitious, and Artimius.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lydia and Walter Lewis, Jr., brothers: Joe and Eddie Lee, sisters: Rosemary, Gladys, Vernice, Patricia and Beverly.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 51 years, Elvie Lewis;
Children: Derieck Goodloe, Reeshema Lewis, Amesheer Lewis, Narvitious Lewis (Effie Rose), Artimius Lewis;
Grandchildren: Kayla, Ashley, Alexiauna (Kenneth), Anaiyah, Artimius, Jr. (aka AJ), Brielle, Niachi, Nyekari, Eeniyah;
Great grandchildren: Elijah, Justice, Aaliyah, Emma, Amirah, Amizu, Ezio, Lucas.
He also leaves to mourn his brothers: Jimmy, Larry, Paul, Marvin and sisters: Mary Lou, Carolynn, Valeria, Velma and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He will truly be missed.
