Larry Sims Obituary

Larry Donnell Sims, our Beloved Son, Brother, Uncle, Nephew, Cousin, and Friend, started his Life’s Journey on May 3, 1970, in Seattle, Washington. He was the oldest child born to Charlie and Bobbi Sims. His journey ended on January 25, 2025.

Larry was christened as an infant at Curry Temple CME Church in Seattle. He continued to serve in various ministries throughout his teenage years, including singing in the youth choir, serving on the usher board, and joining the church's OG youth group.

Growing up in the Skyway area, he attended Earlington & Campbell Hill Elementary Schools and Dimmitt Middle School. Larry graduated in 1988 from Renton High School.

Larry loved sports and played soccer as a child; later, he was on the basketball and football teams in high school.

While in high school, he also discovered he had a hidden talent in barbering.  As a teenager, he made extra money on the side cutting his friends’ hair.

Larry was always outgoing and surrounded himself with countless friends, who are still in his life today.

After graduating from high school, Larry attended Green River College and then enlisted in the US Navy, where he served aboard the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson.

After serving in the military, he found a career in sales.  He became a sales rep at Bally Fitness as well as a personal trainer.  Larry excelled at customer service-based jobs and became a sales rep for many car dealerships in the greater Seattle area.

In 1997, Larry rededicated his life to Christ and became a member of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Baptist Church in Renton, Washington where he was Baptized on January 18, 1998.

In the early 2000s, Larry started a new chapter in his life. He relocated to the Bay Area in California, where he attended Barber College and Cosmetology School. With his many years of experience in cutting hair, outgoing personality, and love for people, he had many clients and a thriving business.

Larry also loved cooking, often barbecuing for his customers at the barber shop where he was working. He would call it “Customer Appreciation Day”. He was also an avid sports fan. Baseball & Football are his favorites.  Larry loved the Seahawks.

Larry moved back to Seattle in 2022 where he was with his immediate family, who he loved dearly. He reconnected with some of his old friends and found a barber shop to continue his career.  He was truly happy.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents: Gladys Franklin, Odell Toliver, and Bessie Ruth Stovall; aunt: Elaine Stovall.

Larry leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will forever resonate in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. He is survived by his parents, Charlie and Bobbi Sims; sister, Shaunyce Sims-Omar; nieces, Ayanna and Isyss Omar; nephew, Nate Omar III; aunts, Twyla Toliver (David Finley), Myrtice Ahmed, Brenda Washington, Freda Gantt, Jennifer Delanty; uncles: Odell Toliver, Michael Stovall, Gregory Stovall, Tony Stovall, Jeff Stovall and a gigantic host of Cousins (far and near) and Lifelong Friends.
