We loved him a lot, but God loves him more. Lawrence Walker Jr (Sonny) was born March 9, 1948 in Seattle WA. to the union of Lawrence Walker Sr. and Earlee Busch Walker. On November 30, 2022 Sonny received his heavenly wings and reunited with the lord.
Sonny educational achievements consist of Bailey Gatzert (Elementary), Washington (Jr. High), and ending in his senior year at Lincoln High school all located in Seattle, WA.
Fresh out of school, he worked at Lockeed Shipbuilding and Construction Company, under the leadership of his father, Lawrence Sr. who was the superintendent of the Scalers and Welders.
Sonny really didn't like the job, so he decided to invest his energy in becoming a car salesman. He started working at Chuck Olson Chevrolet, Glen Grant's Chevrolet and various other dealerships. Sonny thrived in his salesman position and because of his dedication and hard work, he won Salesman of the year numerous times and earn a promotion into a management position. He had one quote that he always shared with his salesmen. “Be honest and trustworthy with your customers they will always come back.” He was passionate about his career as a Manager/Salesman and he remained in this career until his health forced him to retire in 2007.
He never complained and he had a loving and very strong spirit. Always smiling and carrying a heart full of love for his family. Checking on everyone making sure everyone is alright.
In addition to his work ethics Sonny had personal interest. He loved reading books, he would read for hours. He became so knowledgeable that he could relate to different cultures without ever visiting them. Often times when he got approached by people from different cultures and they start engaging in conversations. They would think that he had visited their country, when, he only read books on their country.
He loved his music, The Groove and Jazz artists, songs from the 70's, 80's, and 90's, but he really loved some Luther Vandross! He loved family gatherings, playing cards and dominos. He could play them all night. until the next morning. Any of you that had the pleasure of playing Bid Whist (similar to Spades) with Sonny, you know, he could not stand, to lose ever! Even if he had a hand, that did not have one winning card, he would do everything he could to outbid everyone, knowing he had no chance to make his bid, because he did not want the opposing team to run a Boston on him. He loved his NFL and NBA teams. His all-time favorite team to watch is the University of Washington Huskies. He also liked playing video games with family and friends. Sonny proudly volunteered to participate in the University of Washington vascular and heart research programs. He would spend numerous of hours just filling out surveys and questionnaires. He was always wanted to do what he could to give back and help others.
In 1968, he met and married Janice Poe. Through that union, they had two sons, Andre' and Lorenzo. In 2009, God blessed Sonny with the love of his life, Barbara Watson. They were married in 2015 and to this union, he welcomed 10 step-children. Barbara, the Walker family sends you a debt of gratitude for being so selfless and for giving Sonny the strength and will to be Sonny. Also, for giving Sonny the love and support, he needed (we all needed), to see him through his tough times. Barbara, you will always be our sister for life! Thank you!
