Her Life Story
Jimmie Lou Douglas was born in Sardis, Mississippi, on May 31, 1939. Jimmie was the third child of Pearlena Roberson Douglas and Ira Paris Douglas. She attended and graduated from Walton Chapel Vocational High School. After graduation, she married Walter F. Lewis on September 13, 1957. T hey left their home state of Mississippi in 1969 and moved to Seattle, Washington. Jimmie retired from the Westin Hotel after over thirty years of employment, and she also retired from the Bush School after ten years of employment. Jimmie joined Washington Park Baptist Church after moving to Seattle and remained a faithful member until the church doors closed. She also was a church mother at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church until her health prevented her from attending. Jimmie was a great cook, and a few of her favorites that her family enjoyed was her cornbread dressing, cubed steak and gravy, sweet potato pies, and peach cobblers. In her spare time, she also loved completing crossword puzzles. Jimmie was the nicest, sweetest, and most giving person that you could ever meet. She had a deep love for her three daughters, Annette Lewis Wells (Emmanuel Ray), Ruby Lewis Becton, and Laverne Lewis Berry. Her love also extended to her six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. She also has four siblings: Paris Douglas, Jr. (Teviss ), Wesley M. Douglas (Earlene), Bernice Williams (Emanuel), and Shirley J. Douglas. Jimmie will be deeply missed, but she now rests in peace with her husband Walter, her parents, and two siblings.
GOD SAW YOU GETTING TIRED
God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be so, he put his arms around you and said come to me. With tearful eyes we watched you suffer and saw you fade away. Although we loved you dearly we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating; working hands put to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best.
