Uvernia was born on December 7,1932, in Beekman, Louisiana to the union of Barbara and Homer Fudge. She was the fifth of nine children. She attended schools in Morehouse Parish and graduated from Morehouse High School. She also tagged along with her younger sister Ora to various classes and events at Grambling State University.
Affectionally later known as “Gran”, she accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Reverend P.E. Pierce at Shiloh Baptist Church, Beekman, Louisiana. She was an active member. She sang in the choir, ushered, and she regularly attended Bible Study, and Sunday school. She was a dedicated member until she relocated to Seattle, Washington with two young children, Evelyn and Marilyn.
Gran joined the Greater Mount Baker Missionary Baptist Church in 1958. She faithfully served in many capacities. She was an active participant in the Mission, Sunday School, and Baptist Training Union. She worked with the youth. She served as the Youth Choir mother, and she oversaw the Youth Usher Board. The youth were naturally drawn to her sweet spirit even though she made them spit out their gum in church, remove their second pair of earrings when ushering, and called on them to pray. Gran served on the Trustee Board. She also worked as the chairperson over many auxiliaries: Pastor’s Aide, Building Fund, and the Benevolent and Sick committees. She sang in the Senior Choir. She also served on the Senior Usher Board at the age of 92.
She had a successful career. She retired from The Boeing Company after working there for over 20 years. She simultaneously owned M&U, a janitorial service. She later worked with her “honorary daughter” Mildred at The Golden Adult Family Home.
Gran loved people. She had a contagious smile and great sense of humor. She was a faithful prayer warrior, trusted friend, and the rock of her family. Gran transitioned into perfect peace on July 30, 2025. Our loss is Heaven’s gain.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, three sisters, three brothers, her beloved daughter, Evelyn, granddaughter, Dalonna, and Godson, Anthony Weeks. She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved daughter, Marilyn Fudge; granddaughters: Monica Thompson (Steven) and Roshawna Fudge; great grandchildren: Kiascha, KeChar, KiVon, and Daleceana; sisters: Ora Evans (Bastrop, LA) and Earline Lollar (Greeneville, TN); honorary daughter Mildred Givens (Elmer), Goddaughter, Ashley Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
