Otis Washington, Jr. Obituary

Otis Washington Jr. was born on August 12, 1942, in Tylertown, Mississippi, to Otis Sr. and Verline Washington. He moved to Franklinton, Louisiana, with his family as a child. Otis was the third child of eight and the fourth grandchild of sixty-three grandchildren.

Otis worked hard supporting and helping his mother on the family farm. He wanted more for the family, so he moved to Cleveland, Ohio, to better himself. He later moved back to Franklinton, Louisiana, where he met the love of his life, Geraldine Miller-Washington. In this union, his son Petrick (deceased) and Trenia were born.

Otis thought moving to Seattle could be a better opportunity for him and the family, so he proceeded to pack up the family and pursue growth and possibilities. His first job in Seattle was at 76 gas station on Madison St. (Central District), where he decided to venture out and start his own business as an auto mechanic for the community. While in Seattle, his family continued to grow with son Tony Washington and daughter LaCresha Washington-Pace.

After the death of his beautiful wife, things got tough; however, resilience got them through it. Otis found pleasure in being a great father to his children. His presence was a must and didn’t stop there, as he became a father figure to anyone that he came across in the community. Otis was a respectful person, and he insisted on respect in return. Those who knew him or passed by the house always stopped by to speak and get a good laugh at his incredible humor. They also knew they better have pulled up their pants before they approached the house.

Otis gained a reputation as a sharpshooter and someone who didn’t bite his tongue or sugarcoat anything that came out of his mouth. His presence was strong, but paired with love. He always kept his home open for others and anyone that wanted to spend quality time. His love was so genuine and caring for anyone that was around him. For anyone that could remember or recall, the big bowl of candy was a sweet treat to give but a big personality to match during your visit.

Otis Jr. was reunited and preceded in death with his grandparents, Artis and Emma Harvey; parents, Otis Sr. and Verline Washington; brothers, Shelton, Felton, Eddie James “Peter” Washington, and Tommy Washington-Mingo; son, Petrick Washington; and son-in-law, Chico Duncan.

Otis is survived by his daughter, Trenia Washington-Duncan (husband Chico), deceased of Seattle, WA.; son Tony Washington (wife Elisha) of Seattle, WA.; daughter, LaCresha Washington-Pace (husband John) of Seattle, WA.; granddaughters, K’ana, Kearia, and Dominique of Seattle, WA.; grandsons, Tony, Keontre' Sr., and Tyree of Seattle, WA.; great-grandchildren, Malia and Keontre’ Jr.; siblings, Artis Washington Sr. of Washington, DC; Helen McMasters,; Earlean Comeaux (husband Cornelius), Beauty Lee Washington-Carriere of Seattle, WA. Also mourning the loss of Otis Jr. are a host of many nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.

Otis Washington Jr. generated a legacy that will be puzzling to recreate. However, his handbook is something we will continue to pull for generations to come. The relationships made and shared within the 82 years of his life are endless. He will definitely be missed!
