Phoebe Gaston Obituary

Phoebe A. Gaston (Harris) was born on September 26, 1954, in Denver, Colorado, to the union of Marvin “Wylie Lee” Harris and Velmar Lee Harris (Pinkard). Shortly after Phoebe’s birth, her family relocated to Seattle, WA. She has lived throughout King County, as far south as Burien, to Mt. Baker neighborhood, to the Central District. She attended Garfield High school, class of 1972. She later attended Seattle Central Community College, where she met and later married James L. Gaston (1976).

Phoebe has always been a dedicated hard worker. At times handling multiple odd jobs at once, while providing for her family and taking care of her ailing husband, who had a traumatic stroke a couple of days before their youngest daughter was born in '82. Phoebe drove for the Seattle school district, Laidlaw, back in the late 70’s. Phoebe then relocated to Federal Way where she worked for Group Health Cooperative (Kaiser Permanente) for about 25 years and FWPS Transporation Services as an Assistant Bus Driver. Phoebe was known for her colorful, caring, lively, vibrant, one of a kind and outgoing spirit. She was never one to judge or belittle anyone. She had the biggest heart and was always one to welcome you with open arms. We all considered her a natural “flower child” and “sunshine” seeing that she loved the color yellow. Once in Phoebe's presence you couldn’t help but to smile, because her beautiful spirit was just that contagious.

She is preceded in death by her father, her mother, her brother Mr. Ronnie A. Walker, Sr. (Carolyn), her husband of 41 years Mr. James L. Gaston and step-daughter Ms. Janice Gaston. She leaves to cherish her memories: her children Mrs. Kim Harris-Hodges (James), Mr. Vincent Dunn, Mrs. Conchata Gaston-Martin (Nicholas) and Mrs. Jamie Winters (Martez); step-daughter: Ms. Carol Gaston; her grandchildren: Jack Torrey, Tyrece Young-Martin, Isaiah Dunn, Na’ila Martin, Vincent Dunn, Jr. and Nicholas “Nicky” Martin, Jr.; step-grandchildren: Shamika Gaston, Alonzo “Pierre” King and Deja King; her siblings: Mrs. Katie Oliver (Kermit) and Mrs. Janet Harris-Jefferson (Terry, deceased); along with a large host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other close relatives. She will also be truly missed by her close friends & phone buddies of 50+ years: Valentine Wideen, Sabrina Butler, Augustine Hampton and Frank Fields.

"I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord. The Lord hath chastened me sore: but he hath not given me over unto death. Open to me the gates of righteousness: I will go into them, and I will praise the Lord: This gate of the Lord, into which the righteous shall enter." - Psalms 118:17-20 (KJV)
