Rev. Jerry Brooks

Rev. Jerry Brooks (JB) was born August 6, 1938, in Oscar Louisiana to the late Gabriel Brooks and Lubertha Kemp. He Attended St. Almo Elementary /New Rhode, and   Pointe Coupee (Rosenwald) High School, LA.

In 1961 Meet Purley Allen of Baton Rouge, LA and was married on September 16, 1961, at Rose of Sharon Baptist Church in Alsen, LA, Rev. Isaiah Mitchell. September 1963 moved to Seattle, WA with wife Purley A. and daughter Sheila Brooks. 

He dedicated 30 years as Produce Manager at Albertson and Roger’s Thriftway, and 5 years as Quality Control Supervisor while employed at Port of Seattle, Restaurant Business Owner and First Black Produce and Vegetable Owner. 

He was baptized in 1976 by the late Rev. W.E. Davenport of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Seattle, WA. In 1985 he was ordained as a Deacon and on November 10,1986 ordained as Licensed Minister. He Attended A. L. Hardy Academy Tacoma Extension, were Rev. J. A. Boles was Director. He served as president of the Home Mission Board, Washington State Baptist Convention, Rev. J.A. Boles, President. He Served 5yrs as Assistant Pastor under Pastor J. Stinson, Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Tacoma, WA.

In June of 1991 he organized Little Zion Missionary Baptist Church and was ordained as Pastor in July of 1991 by Pastors A.B Deavers and PastorGrover Sanders of Star bethel. In June 2011 he organized and Pastored New Zion Missionary Baptist Church. In 2018 he became a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist church under the direction of Walter E. White, Pastor

Rev. Jerry Brooks was called home peacefully Sunday April 16, 2023, surrounded by his Loving Family at Harborview Medical Center, Seattle, WA

Preceding him in death His Parents Gabriel Brooks and Lubertha Kemp, Brother ‘s Ernest, Roosevelt Brooks, granddaughter Narissa, mother-in-law Rose Allen, brother-in-law’s John Lipscomb and Jimmy Hawkins, Aunt and uncle Moses and Lily Cummings daughter-in-law Robin Brooks, Spiritual Mother Geneva Willins, and close friends Rev. W.E. Davenport, Rev. JR Hughes, and Rev. M. Darden 

He leaves to Cherish His Memories and to Celebrate His Life, His devoted wife Purley A. Brooks of 62 years, six children, Sheila B Knox (Hayward Knox), Gearlynne, Bruce, Jeffrey Dwayne, Jeffrey Delone and Shashakia Brooks. Ten grandchildren Nicki, Latoney, Jerry, D’Nesha, Karrea, Jontira’  Shaylyn, Vaughn, Eric and Erika. 4 great-grandchildren Josilyn, Allen, Lilianna, Isaiah and brother Rev. Gabriel Brooks (Tracy), Seattle, WA. 3 special cousins Pastor Levert Kemp, Sam and Barbara Jean, 7 sister-in-law’s, 2 brother-in-laws, 6 God Children, Spiritual Mother Hibania Davis, Tacoma, WA and Host of relatives, loved ones and many friends.
