Ruth Alexander Obituary

Ruth Tate Alexander (Lady Alexander), born in Grambling, Louisiana, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a life defined by faith, scholarship, service, and an unwavering devotion to family and community. A proud resident of Grambling, Ruth grew into a woman whose strength, grace, and purpose touched every life she encountered.

Ruth’s faith was a cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted member of Martin Temple CME Church and Lewis Temple CME Church, where she sang in the Adult Choir, served as a Sunday School Teacher, was honored as a Mother of the Church, and participated in community outreach, always extending love and support to those in need.

Ruth dedicated 40 years to the field of education in Madison Parish (Wright Elementary) and Ouachita Parish (Drew Elementary and Robinson Elementary) school systems, shaping young minds with patience, compassion, and a belief that every child deserved the chance to thrive. Her commitment to early learning led her to become the first recipient of the Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education at Grambling State University, a groundbreaking achievement that opened doors for future educators and cemented her place as a trailblazer.

Her life was also enriched by the bonds of sisterhood and service. Ruth pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, embracing a lifelong commitment to scholarship, leadership, and community uplift. She also pledged the Order of the Eastern Star, where she continued her legacy of service, compassion, and spiritual strength.

Above all, Ruth was devoted to her family. Ruth’s husband (West Alexander Jr) proceeded her in death, and she was the cherished mother of Kimberly and Consheila, who carry forward her wisdom, resilience, and love. She was a proud grandmother to Keon, Joseph, MyKa'La, Jocelyn, and Maya, each of whom she encouraged, supported, and celebrated. Her joy multiplied with the arrival of her great‑grandchildren: Kaiden, Kingsley, Jaiden, Justice, Joy, West, and Nariah, who brought light and laughter into her later years.

Ruth is also survived by her beloved brother Willis and her devoted brother‑in‑law Clarence, along with a loving host of nieces, nephews, great‑nieces, great‑nephews, great‑great‑nieces and great-great-nephews, and cousins who adored her and were shaped by her steady presence and generous heart.

Ruth’s legacy is one of faith, education, service, and love. She leaves behind generations of students whose lives were changed by her guidance, sorority sisters who cherished her leadership and grace, church members who were uplifted by her devotion, and a family who will forever carry her spirit forward. Her life reminds us of the power of kindness, the importance of community, and the beauty of a life lived with purpose.

Her family invites all who knew and loved her to honor her memory by continuing the work she believed in so deeply lifting others, nurturing young minds, and walking through the world with dignity and compassion.
