On August 6, 2021, we honor the life of Ruth Gabregziabher Habtemariam. Our beloved Ruth enlivened every family gathering with her infectious laugh, effervescent love of music and dancing, unparalleled cooking and radiant personality. People gravitated to Ruth’s presence thanks to her lovely soul, which balanced her energetic sense of humor with her ability to hold deep meaningful conversations and her unending generosity. Ruth’s presence will be sorely missed.
Biography
Ruth was born in Addis Ababa on April 21st, 1957 to her mother, Silas Gebremariam and her father, Gebregziabher Habtemariam. She spent her early childhood years in Asmara before returning to Addis Ababa; then moving to Athens, Greece to continue her studies with support from her father and her sister, Lucia. She subsequently moved to the United States- first to Nashville, thereafter to Atlanta and Los Angeles, where she met and married her husband of 30 years- Getachew Admassu. She subsequently moved to Seattle, which brought her closer to and reunited her with her sisters- Aklasia and Wubnesh.
Ruth took her final rest on August 3rd, 2021. She is survived by her husband, Getachew; her siblings Abeba, Aklasia, Mussie, Wubnesh and Ma’aza; her daughter, Tihtina; several cousins, nieces and nephews; and countless lives Ruth has impacted with her presence.
