Sonny Jenkins Obituary

ROOSEVELT “SONNY” JENKINS passed away peacefully on January 9,
2026, at the age of 83.
Born on May 23, 1942, in Drew, Mississippi, to the late Freddie James
Jenkins and Sarah Mae Gordon, well known as Missionary Jenkins. Sonny
was the eldest son of ten children, comprising three daughters and seven
sons. As the eldest son, he learned early in life the importance of hard work
and responsibility.
Sonny was a man of unwavering spirit, taking great pride in his skills as
a Longshoreman. Following a brief employment at Taco Time in West
Seattle, Washington, he dedicated himself to working as a Longshoreman
on the Seattle waterfront from 1967 until 2026, a total of 59 years. He was
a committed member of his crew, often asserting, “He was not ever going
to retire and he will work until they carry him out of there.” True to his
promise, he was actively working at the time of his passing.
In 1964, he married his first wife, Dolly Reynolds. From this union, he was
blessed with two daughters, Regina Harris and Tina Hunter. On December
30, 1983, he married Sandra Roller, with whom he had one daughter,
Brittany Herzog.
Sonny will be remembered for his steadfast work ethic, his profound
dedication to his profession, and his role as a pillar within his extensive
family.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, three brothers—Jack,
Richard, and Jimmy Jenkins—and two sisters, Mother Elleree Harrison
and Mother Mildred Inell Jenkins.
He is survived by his children, Regina, Tina, and Brittany; his siblings,
Pastor Henry A. Jenkins, Supervisor Mary Jean McGraw, Laten Jenkins,

and Archie Jenkins; along with a loving multitude of grandchildren, great-
grandchildren, nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, and cherished

friends.
His legacy of strength and commitment will live on in the hearts of those
who knew him.
