Stanley Lee Kendrick, 69, of Seattle WA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at Veteran Administration Puget Sound Health Care System, with his sister nearby. Born in Hartford, Connecticut on May 14, 1954, son of the late Benny and Doris (Hamilton) Kendrick, he was raised in Hartford and was a graduate of Thomas Snell Weaver High School class of 1972. Stanley attended Bates College in Lewiston, Maine, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in History. Stanley joined the United States Air Force in May 1978 and was stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Great Falls, Montana. Stan spent a successful 15-year career in the United States Air Force. Upon leaving the USAF, he relocated to Seattle, WA. Stan was a Mail Services Associate in CBRE International Shipping department. Stan was a dedicated and respected employee who had over 25 years of service with the team. He joined CBRE through the Excela transition in 2019 and quickly became a trusted mentor for many colleagues over his four and a half years on the account. He will be greatly missed by all of us who had the privilege of working with him. Stan could be found working late many nights throughout his 25 years of service.
Stan had an eagerness for knowledge. In his spare time, he was an avid reader, oftentimes reading two or three books at a time. Stan was also a lover of nature. As much as he enjoyed hiking and camping with friends, he also cherished his solitude, such as times he spent alone and at one with nature. Stan’s closeness with nature and wildlife afforded him the privilege of encountering a bear or two. He successfully slipped away, being able to hike and camp another day.
A music enthusiast, he enjoyed listening to various genres. A couple of his favorites were classical and anything by Aretha Franklin. As a teen, Stanley would pursue his sister around the house, singing his favorite Aretha songs. Stan began collecting comic books as a youth and this passion continued throughout his adult life. He would spend hours on the phone with family members who live on the east coast. He would always be reminding them that Seattle was three hours behind EST so do not call him in the early morning hours. However, he had no problem calling his east coast relatives late at night and keeping them up until the wee hours in the morning. Stan was active, energetic and had a zest for life. He also enjoyed watching movies and tv. The Star Trek series begin his favorite. He spent the past 30 years enjoying the sights and sounds of the Seattle area. Stan’s intelligence and humor have made a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. His legacy will continue to be cherished by friends, colleagues, and family for years to come.
Stan’s conversion to Judaism as a young adult demonstrated the importance of family and community to him. During his recent illness, Stan combined his Jewish beliefs with the acceptance of Jesus Christ, as a Jew for Jesus.
He leaves to mourn his transition from this earthly life, three siblings; Cynthia Kendrick of East Hartford, Samuel Kendrick of College Park, GA, Kathryn Kendrick of Hartford, CT: sister-in-law Emily Jean (Leon) Doiley, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was predeceased by two sisters, Sylvia Wilborn and Marilyn Kendrick; and five brothers, Henry Wilborn, Franklin Roosevelt Wilborn, Jesse Kendrick, Benny Kendrick, Jr., and Alfred Kendrick.
