Stephen LaBoo Sr., Obituary

Stephen Arnold LaBoo Sr., a loving husband, brother and father passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2022, at age sixty-nine. A genuine intellect, Stephen earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institution (RPI) and spent thirty-five years as an avionics engineer working on Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System (TCAS). In this role, Stephen also served as a Designated Engineering Representative for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Stephen was baptized as a child and maintained a discipleship relationship with Christ until he went to rest in the bosom of his Savior. Stephen lived a legacy life, he embodied what a man of God should be. Besides being gentle, devoted, and selfless, Stephen also loved reading, specifically books about history and politics. While attending RPI for Freshman orientation, he met the love of his life, Joyce, with whom he bonded over family meals at the home of Leroy & Hazel. After several months of dating, they married at the Bethel Baptist Church in Troy, NY. Their union soon welcomed Stephanie Renea and Stephen Jr.. In February 1977 the family heard the call to move west and they relocated to Renton, WA where they welcomed Jacina.

Stephen was best known for being introspective, logical, and analytical. His children lovingly remember him for having coached all of them in multiple sports and having never missed a parent-teacher conference. Stephen had a number of hobbies for which he was known including photography, history, reading, physical fitness, watching live sports, and dancing. Those closest to Stephen remember him as a mole-chaser, a bacon-cake eater, a diehard Laker fan, and having a numerical & historical recollection which was second to none.

Stephen served his church, MLK, in a number of roles from Usher, Trustee, Financial Secretary, and Treasurer. A devoted family man, a lifelong learner, and an extremely curious engineer is survived by his wife, Joyce, his three children, and the love of his life, his grandson, Xavier Yearby. Siblings, Patricia LaBoo, April LaBoo-Talton (Jamie Talton), Debbie Flores (Joe Flores), Victor LaBoo (Bernice LaBoo), nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. Stephen was preceded in death by his parents James Arthur LaBoo and Sadie Boyd-Macklin, his siblings Valerie Macklin, John Macklin Jr., Adrian Macklin, Lionel Macklin, and James Arthur LaBoo Jr.. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, October 17, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Martin Luther King Memorial Baptist Church in Renton, WA.
