Terrie L. Stewart

Terrie Latricia Wells was born on May 18, 1958 to the union of Peter David Wells Sr. and Bema Kate Wells.  She was the sixth of nine children.  She grew up in Seattle’s Central District and attended I. Stevens Elementary School, Meany Middle School and Roosevelt High School.

Terrie always had a love for God and accepted Him into her life when she was 12 years old at God’s Pentecostal Temple.  She was baptized at 16 under the leadership of Bishop A. L. Hardy at the Rose of Sharon Pentecostal Temple.  Terrie loved music.  In church, she could always be found clapping, singing and of course playing her tambourine.  She never left home for church without it. 

Terrie was the mother of three children: Dontay S. Wells, Chundranae’ A. McGary and My-Unique S. McGary.  While raising her children, she battled stage 1 breast cancer in 1996 and stage 4 breast cancer in 2006. Terrie had a fight within her that was unbelievable.   Though surgery, chemo and radiation were very taxing.  Terrie pressed on.  She attended events at school, helped with homework and spent time with her children.  When asked how she made it she replied, “God and my children.  I had to live.”

Terrie had an infectious spirit that simply captivated the hearts of others especially her grandchildren.  She stayed home and took care of them while their parents worked.  Took them on mini adventures wherever they desired.  She was the true definition of a grandmother and loved them beyond words. Her home was the epicenter for so many. There were always gatherings with great food and of course her homemade cakes.  She was also trusted by many to love on and care for their children. Terrie provided support, safety, counsel and above all love to anyone she came in contact with. 

After suffering a massive stroke in July 2018, Terrie resided in a rehab facility.  The same love she provided in her home, she carried with her there.  Everyone knew her. She was the popular lady among them. After all she had been through in her life, Terrie still wore the biggest smile, never complained and gave all glory to God for bring her through.  She was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer on August 18, 2019.  She departed this world to be with our Lord on September 13, 2019 surrounded by family and friends.

In her 61 years of life, Terrie was able to leave a lasting imprint on so many lives. She will be greatly missed.

She leaves to cherish her memory: 3 children-Dontay S. Wells, Chundranae’ A. McGary and My-Unique S.  McGary. 3 sisters- Dorothy Jeanette Wortz of Oakland, CA, Sybra Hayes (Sammy) of Monterey, CA and Joyce Wells. 1 brother Peter David Wells Jr.  2 special children-Lester Ballard and Chameka McGary. 10 gandchildren, 18 nieces and nephews and a host of cousins, friends, extended family and children.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have remained faithful. And now the prize awaits me—the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on the day of His return.  And the prize is not just for me but for all who eagerly look forward to his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8
