Willie Matt Mieldon, affectionately known as “Sonny” or “Chill,” passed away peacefully at home on December 28, 2024, at 74. Born on December 29, 1949, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to the late Willie James and Beatrice Bessie Mieldon, Willie will be remembered by his family as Grandpa, Dad, and Pops.
A proud Henry Snyder High School graduate, Class of 1968, Willie served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War before founding Mieldon & Associates, his cleaning business, in 1973. He later pursued studies at Chemeketa Community College (Class of 1976) and Bellevue Community College (Class of 1992). Willie worked as Director of Environmental Services at Harborview Medical Center for a decade before returning to entrepreneurship with “Just Floors” and eventually becoming a Real Estate Broker, a role he held until his passing.
Willie’s entrepreneurial spirit extended to the music industry, where he co-produced for the hip-hop group “2 Live Crew” in the early 1980s. Known as a mentor to young Black men in the Pacific Northwest, he impacted many lives.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Matthew Butts and Bonnie Mieldon, daughter Rhonda Mieldon, two grandchildren, and his in-laws Eddie and Ola Mae Jackson. He is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years, Esther; siblings Gerald Butts and Carol Jones; five children—Kevin, David, Michelle, Adria, and Kiana; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members and friends.
As Pearline L. Dottin remarked in the Seattle Profile in 1993, “Willie has provided Seattle with another tenacious talented professional African-American male.” Willie Mieldon will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
